Horyuji Precincts

Founded around 607 by Prince Shotoku, Horyuji Temple is the world's oldest wooden building complex. It consists of the Western Precinct, rebuilt after a fire in 670, and the Eastern Precinct, built around 739 to honor the Prince, preserving precious cultural properties since the Asuka period.
